Best Local Coffee Spots to Visit in Baltimore City

Living in Maryland for a bit over 10 years, and being a coffee snob, I've learned a thing or two on coffee shops you should visit when in Baltimore instead of Starbucks. My love language is coffee, so take me to a local coffee spot and I'll be your best friend. I haven’t lived in Baltimore since 2023, so let me know if there are any new ones popping up!

A few of my favorites have shut down since COVID unfortunately, and some have moved or remodeled, so I'll also be listing a few I haven't tried yet. I'll also section them off into different parts of Baltimore City, like Mt. Vernon, Harbor Point, etc. I'm not a full on Baltimore expert, so forgive me if I am wrong on the exact location of each spot! There's so many sections here in the city. But, I'll try my best.

With that, let's get into it!

First stop for coffee, Hampden

As you head towards Baltimore from the North, you'll most likely pass Hampden first, which is a great place to stop!

Here are a few coffee spots that can't be missed.

-Good Neighbor

-Artifact

-Ceremony (Whitehall Mill)

-Vent

Its hard for me to pinpoint my favorites, but each depends on your type of mood. Artifact gives more of an industrial feel, white Good Neighbor and Ceremony are a bit more luxury/modern. Good Neighbor is only a few extra steps from the main street of Hampden, and Artifact and Good Neighbor are a bit hidden. There are also many other Ceremony Coffee locations you'll see me list throughout the city! But the one here is located inside Whitehall Mill which is a cute market with shops, bakeries and bars!

Vent is closer to the highway but in the same building as a bunch of local and small businesses! There's a rock climbing gym, a brewery, an ice cream shop called The Charmery, and a wine tasting room! This space is super minimal and gives off an industrial feel, while being super cozy & functional.

Good Neighbor has a bunch of plants, decor and books to purchase. They also have a greenhouse to shop from behind the cafe and a big seating area outside on the left!

Mt Vernon

-Ceremony

-Dashery Cafe (inside of Revival Hotel)

-Baby's on Fire

-Cafe Fili

-The Bun Shop

Since I live in Mt Vernon, I might be a bit biased, but I think it's the best place for coffee. There's so many options within walking distance. My personal go-to is Ceremony here.

Dashery Cafe is really cool because it's inside of Revival Hotel, with Topside Bar as well, and really cool decor all throughout. They have breakfast sandwiches and smoothies, too. And everywhere you look in this lobby, you'll be amazed at the style!

The Bun Shop I've heard has really great Vietnamese coffee, but I personally only go for the sweet bun, aka RotiBoy. This place is super industrial and is my favorite to work in. they also have a location up in Towson.

Baby's on Fire also doubles as a vinyl shop! And has great vegan food and sweets. Honestly you can get so many different atmospheres and creativity in Mt Vernon just by the coffee spots! Totally worth checking out and just walking around.

Fells Point / Harbor Point

-Sacre, Sucre

-Ceremony (Harbor Point)

-Pitango

-Daily Grind

-Luna Garden

Fells point used to have a Babys on Fire location but closed due to COVID, and it was easily my favorite! Now I lean towards Pitango because of how open & bright it is, with a lot of seating.

The photo above is in Sacre, Sucre which has some insane sweets you gotta try. Their matcha is so good, too.

Also if you're up in Harbor Point, don't worry, Ceremony has got you covered!

Daily Grind has great lunch sandwiches and Luna Garden is newer, and i've had their chai. It was sooo good! It's also right next to Soundgarden, the local record store.

Federal Hill

-3 Bean

-Ceremony

-Order & Chaos

Yet again, you know Fed Hill has a Ceremony! This Ceremony is located in Cross Street Market. Order & Chaos and 3 Bean are located over on Key Hwy, with 3 Bean being right next to Federal Hill Park with a nice view of the Inner Harbor!

3 Bean is owned & operated by Vagrant Coffee, and Order & Chaos has a fun vibe to it with a logo that'll stick out to anyone.

Canton

-Cafe Dear Leon

-OneDo Coffee

-Atwaters

My personal favorite in Canton has been OneDo for a while. Atwaters was my go-to, until OneDo was shown to me and I never looked back. I do love Atwaters for the food options though. They also have two locations in the Towson area.

Cafe Dear Leon is newer and they have great coffee and some really fun pastries. They even use Ceremony coffee! Seating is limited but luckily you have the waterfront a few blocks away or the park right outside since you're in the square.

OneDo is super cute inside, with some seating in the back & outside.

Charles Village

-Bird in Hand

-Sophomore Coffee

I've only been to the above locations once each, but still they left a great memory in my mind! Sophomore coffee is super hip, and has a small seating area inside, with more seating outside.

Bird in hand is a few more blocks away located in the JH University area. And, it's also a book store! Last time I was there it was the midst of COVID so I am unsure about indoor seating, but there's plenty of places to sit outside to enjoy your coffee & breakfast. They are also open until 7PM for any late afternoon studying!

Hamilton/Lauraville

-Cafe Campli

This spot is an Italian-inspired cafe with Black Acres coffee! It's more of a food and drink spot, but their coffee is still so good. But the italian food is out of this world, guys! Campli is a small town in Italy where one of the owners family emigrated from. They were so inspired by the culture, they brought it to Baltimore!

The inside is the cutest I've seen in a while. They are brand new so you have to stop in for some lunch or dinner!

Places I have yet to visit

-Red Canoe, Lauraville/Hamiliton

-Red Emmas, Waverly

-Doobys, Mt Vernon

-Coffee Olivia, Mt Vernon

-Black Acres Roastery, Midtown

-Dear Globe Coffee Roasters, Downtown/Mt Vernon

If I missed a spot you love, I'd love to hear about it and try it out! There's so many, so I must've missed at least one or two.

Also, there were a few I skipped over because I am personally not a fan. I don't like to advertise anything I dislike. I thought about listing them and saying, 'i'm not a fan but...' but it doesn't feel right. So take what I say, as always, with a grain of salt! Everyone has their own personal opinion, and that's what blogs are for, right? These are MY favorite local coffee spots in Baltimore!

Let me know over on Instagram if I've inspired you to try any of these out, and let me know how you liked them!

Happy sipping!
